Day 9: A Quick Pic and Post

Hello everyone! Just a quick post, because Mum wants me to turn the computer off! So, here is the person she pulled out of the hat. His name is Cajun, and he's got stripes in his hair... But I forgot to put them in, so I'll have to do that tomorrow.

If you want to know what he is pointing at, it's is breakfast. Burnt toast that has been cruelly tortured. In other words, Cinnamon (February 29 faces) cooked it.

Day 9: Complete, now have a wonderful day everyone!!

Day 5, Heroes and a guilt trip

Mum was doing that Heroes thing on The Butterfly Effect, and she's been bugging me to enter it for a while now, but I didn't feel any inspiration. Mum suggested that I draw Naruto (and she kept suggesting it too. Every 10 minutes. I don't think she realised I liked other characters and other shows too), but there is an issue there as I don't draw fan art (I have no talent for it). The second issue that emerged was among the charcters and my own characters too: I don't really classify any of them as a 'hero' of any sort, not even if they do save a world or twelve, or wear the spandex costume, or anything related to heroes. All I see are people/aliens (I'm not discriminating) who make a decision and be moral, whichever way their morality goes. Yes, that applies to Villains as well. Anyway, Mum guilted me into doing it in the end, so here my face for the day and for her thingy too.

Hotaru returns again! I actually just started drawing a pose and then she popped up as the person to fit it.
The Questions...

1. What Super Power would you posses?
I would posses the ability to create and breath life into the worlds in my head and travel to them whenever I feel like it. Apparently that wish scared many of my former classmates

2. What's your costume of choice?
Runners, long pants and a sleeved shirt with a jacket incase I'm somewhere cold and a bag for neat things that I like (the bag will need to be enchanted to house a lot of stuff then...). Probably with the colours green, blue and black. I'd melt into the background dressed like that!

3. Do you have/want a sidekick?
Na, not really. I'd want my friends and family, but I wouldn't treat them (or address them) as a sidekick. Genre Savvyness because sidekicks are doomed and I really don't want that to happen

4. What's your weakness?
... Moody, stubborn, scared of Weeping Angels, Darleks, Cypermen and the things that might be in the dark (but not the dark itself)

5. You a lover or a loner?
Loner really.

6. Do you have a secret identity/ordinary life to juggle?
Ordinary life is fine, it's the travelling to the worlds I create that will cause the trouble ~ I'll get recognised there easily, so I'll need a disguise (maybe I should add a wig to the costume)

7. Being a hero can make you enemies - who's/what's yours?
Bullies, but I'll just throw them into one of my worlds and see how they cope.

8. What's your motto or catchphrase?
'Anyway' is common from me and 'No prop'. But when I pop into one of the worlds, I might say something like "Yo guys! How are you all today? Now you know the drill, tell me what's going on or I'll make something happen."
...
I'm not that mean. Maybe...

Day 5: Finito! Voila is next I promise. Have a nice day everyone!

2 May 2012

Day 2!

Hello again! Time for the second face for the 29 faces challenge! You probably won't believe me, but in February, the first name Dad drew out was Phoenix, the first name he drew out for May was Isabelle - Phoenix's older twin sister. I just found it really funny. She was also done using pencils and coloured pens (for the hair and ribbon)
Unlike her sister, Isabelle does not go well in a fight, since she did not grow up on the seas. She is quick though and has excellent memory.
Day 2: Done! Thanks for coming by and have a nice day everyone.

An old English story...

While in grade 11, we started to look at poetry for some reason. I'm pretty sure I've said this before, but I've never really been interested in poetry. Mostly because I could never understand it. Where was I? Oh right. So we were doing poetry, and the English teachers thought it would be great if they could somehow test that we could interpret poems. Thus we were giving a writing assignment.
We needed to pick a poem from our book, and write a short story on it. The hardest thing was finding a poem in the first place for many people. Lucky for me, I write lots of stories and always have three at the ready for a moments notice. So all I had to do, was find a poem that matched the story (in my view). Now I love mythology, so it's no surprise that many of my stories take on qualities from those stories. So flicking through the book, my eyes land on a familiar name. No, not a poet/author, but a character. Andromeda from Greek mythology to be exact. Reading trough the poem a few times, every time going "This is perfect! I can use this!" until I decided enough of the reading and more editing.
Now, my teacher was the English teacher that doesn't like me (so I don't like her), so anything that I write will automatically get graded lower. To prevent this, I showed my story to another teacher. The head of Senior English in fact. Everyone loves this teacher, her enthusiasm about the subject infects others and she's chatty outside the subject too. Anyway, this teacher once said to show her my work because she loved reading them. And I showed her the poetry/short story assignment. The next day I get it back in the morning - It had a smiley face at the bottom of the page and ticks on every paragraph (It was the final version of the story so all editing had been done).
The next term, the teacher I don't like handed me the assignment back. The page had the teacher's remark on how childish it was and some other criticism, but had an 'A' on it. I think I only got that 'A' because I showed it to the other teacher.
Thus my habit for paying out poetry started, but that's not what this post is about (although I have rambled on for long enough... Sorry)

Anyway, the monster in this story I found in a monster book (which was constantly borrowed out under my name), so the info for it I got out of the book.
Here's the poem:

Andromeda
She was the first pin-up.
Naked and bejewelled,
she was chained to a rock,
then thrown by heavy-breathing
winds into wild postures:
at each new angle, lightning
popped like a photographer’s flash.
The gold circling her neck
matched her hair, the emeralds
her eyes, the rubies her nipples,
and the amethysts those bruises
covering her skin, once pearl-white
as for all princesses.
In lulls of wind, she pulled
against iron, stood almost straight.
The sky was a mouth swallowing her,
the sun a glimmering eye;
lolling in the tide, a sea-dragon
slithered and gargled like
some vast collective slob.
From afar, Perseus saw her first
as a creature writhing on a rock;
close up, she was a whirlpool
of rage and terror and shame.
The dragon he changed to stone
with hardly a thought. But
his strength almost failed him
in breaking those chains.
Looking away from her nakedness,
he smooths her ankles, wrists.
She waits for the moment
when he will meet her eyes.

Note that the teachers said how we interpret the poems, that means what we individually feel about it... Right? So anyway, enjoy the story (and I'm sorry for the ramble above)

The two poked their heads out from behind the pillar and wall that they were hiding behind. The creature gave a stifled yawn and turned its attention to the treasure behind it at the back of the room. Leon slipped over to Moselle as some of the treasure was sent flying around the room, hitting the walls and leaving dents behind.
“Right, what’s this one then?” He asked and peered over Moselle’s shoulder as she flipped through her book. All her nervous energy evaporated as she scanned through the book and matched an old, carefully hand-drawn picture to the creature in front of them.
“A ‘Vouivre’,” she said and continued to read the passage that accompanied the image, “All are females and can only see by the gem that sits between their blind eyes. They guard large amounts of treasure and lurk in ruined castles, monasteries or mountain caves.”
Leon nodded and peeked at the creature again, “Anything else?”
“They only attack people that wear clothes, so the best defence and offence is to be naked, then she’ll make a run for it,” Moselle concluded and shut the book firmly and wrapped the cords securely around it. Then she realised what she said and a very visible shade of red crossed her cheeks and Leon’s well.
“N-naked?” He asked uncertain and somewhat nervous.
“T-that’s what… I-it said…” Moselle mumbled and curled up into a tighter ball than before, as she hugged the book closer to her chest and hid her brightly flushed face in her knees. The two stayed silent as the clanging of thrown treasure continued in the next room.
“I t-think you should d-do it,” Moselle stammered out and choked on her words as Leon gave her a dirty look back, she realised what she had said and her eyes widened as she tried to explain, but her voice decided to take a break from working.
“W-why?!” He partly demanded, and shot up from his squatting position, taking care to not appear from out of the wall. Moselle shivered slightly and tried to keep her nerves in check as she gripped onto the book harder for the confidence it gave her.
“Well… For one reason… You’re a boy, Vouivre are girls, and I think a naked boy would freak anyone out…” She reasoned. Leon calmed back down, but remained standing.
“I think a naked girl would freak out anyone has well,” he reasoned back, turned red again and sat back down, “There has to be a better way then to strip off…”
He pondered for a moment and his eyes became hazy and unfocused as he tried to think of something, and smiled as his eyes lit up. He turned to Moselle.
“Hey, listen, keep watch here, ok? I’ll be back in a sec,” he said before he slipped off around the corner at a startling speed. Moselle calmed down as Leon left and uncurled herself, her recognisable blush instantly dieing down. She breathed out and gazed around the wall to the Vouivre, who had decided to sit up on the very top of the tower of numerous different treasures.

A little while later, the sound of footsteps got Moselle out of her trance of sketching the creature and she turned and looked up to face Leon, in what appeared to be nothing. Her face instantly flared back up into the colour red from before and she quickly pulled up the book to block her vision.
“I-I-I-” she tried to form a sentence, but she kept forgetting what she was meant to say, since the situation had just transferred to her brain, and there were many responses that bounced back.
“I-I-I d-didn’t me-mean for y-y-you t-to…” Moselle tried to convey her embarrassment across to Leon. She felt him kneel in front to her and try to pry the book away from her. After a slight struggle, he succeeded in doing that; only to have Moselle clamp her hands across her eyes.
“Haha, come on Moss, it’s not what it looks like,” he laughed and rubbed his arm against her skin. ‘It’s covered in fabric…’ Moselle realised and reluctantly opened a small gap in her hands so she could get a better look. Sure enough, Leon was wearing a skin colour fabric tightly around his body. The shadows fitted the correct areas and whatever body muscle Leon had showed through the fabric. Moselle didn’t dare to look lower until one thing was cleared up.
“You are wearing u-undies, r-right?”
“Ah, the big question in life… Is the boy in the nude suit wearing undies, and to answer your question, yes I am wearing undies.”
Moselle lowered her hands and gave a small annoyed sigh while crossing her arms.
“Tell me next time you do a stupid stunt like this!”
“Alright, alright, calm down, I promise I’ll try,” Leon attempted to calm her down, but she flared up again and made a face between a pout and an angry look. Leon gave up and gazed to the creature behind Moselle. He stood up and motioned Moselle to stay hidden. As he moved forward, she quickly grabbed his hand, forcing Leon to look down at her as she mouthed ‘She has a ruby in her forehead’ and let go of his hand.
He smiled and nodded, “Maybe she’s short-sighted.”

Leon made his way to the entrance of the room and picked up a piece of treasure next to him. He threw it into the air, caught it, looked at in all its wonder and splendour, and then hurtled it at the head of the creature with a grunt. It hit right in between the eyes, but missed the red gemstone etched in its forehead. The Vouirve gave a startled cry and reared its head at him. Its eyes took a moment to adjust to Leon and upon realising what he looked like, yelped in surprise and moved hastily over to the window, which it slithered out of. Leon ran over to the window and looked down below to see nothing but the bottom of the tall mountain they had climbed up to get to the monastery. He sighed and hauled himself away from the window to face Moselle.
“Nude suit works then,” he stated and Moselle nodded as she wrote down on a piece of paper and slid it into the page.
“And appears to need glasses,” she added on sarcastically and smiled confidently at Leon. He rubbed the back of his neck and grinned sheepishly.
“Hey, um… Moss, mind doing me a favour?” He laughed nervously.
“What?” Moselle asked politely.
“Um… There is a lot of sweat in here, can you get my clothes from around the corner?” He pointed back to where they originally were. Moselle turned her head around to see and faced back to him. She left without a word and when she was around the corner, Leon quickly unzipped the suit and pulled it down to about his waist. He waved his wands in a fanning motion to cool himself down and turned to face out the window. He forgot where he was until a startled yelp came from behind him. He turned around to see Moselle hiding her face in his clothes and he slightly blushed.
“I’m going to need those,” he commented and walked over to her. When he halted a metre in front, she gave a low bow and brought out the clothes from underneath. Leon had just grabbed onto the clothes when Moselle withdrew her hands and ran away back around the corner, tripping several times while she was at it.
“Thank-you!” He called out; sure that she was probably hiding in the book again. He sighed and focused on getting out of the suit, while keeping an eye out for the Vouirve, or else he might actually be nude if it decided to come back up

That's it! What do you all think of it? Thanks for reading, and have a nice day everyone!

Opps... And Hi

Hiya everyone!
You know what I've been delaying? The 29th face... And I know it isn't that much of an excuse, but I've just been busy. On the plus side, now that it's holidays and that I won't have much work, I'll be doing more drawing and writing (hopefully).
Anyway... How is everyone? Happy Easter (or its equivalent)! Hope you're all going really well.
Ok then, have a nice day!

29 Feb 2012

Day 27: Almost at the end...

Hello! I haven't been on lately, and now I feel really bad. I've been meaning to go around and catch up on other people's blogs... But I just haven't had the time too. So I apologise for that, eventually, I will get around to visiting everyone who commented, and the close-to-60-something participates in the 29 faces challenge.
Anyway... Mum pulled the name out of the hat, so here is Saffron! She comes from the same world as Pari-Pari and Cinnamon.

She looks a bit more like a cat doesn't she? Sorta figures, she is the lead researcher in the story she's involved in. So Saffy's naturally curious, not so much about robots, but everything else.
Day 27: Completed! I'm a little behind, but give me time! Anyway, have a nice day everyone!

27 Feb 2012

Day 26!

Ok, so here's the last face of the picture! And no, sorry, no blue air this time! But it does start with 'B'.

His name is Hayaki, and he always seems to have this annoyed look on his face when anyone talks to him.
So now that that's done... I'm going to need another face to draw... OH! Want to see the full picture?

Since they all act more like a family, it seemed fitting to draw them in casual clothes. Probably helps when the two on the right are actually related.
Pastels were annoying to work with on the cardboard. Next time I use them it'll be on plain paper or something. Anyway, Day 26: Finito! Have a wonderful day everyone!

25 Feb 2012

Day 25: Up to date.

The next face of the team belongs to Hotaru.

Hmm.. Another blondie. Anyone want to take a guess as to the next persons hair colour?

Day 25: Done, now there's only one face left of this picture... I'll probably wait 'til midnight our time to post it. What? It's the weekend, I can stay up late and sleep-in for those two days! Anyway, have a nice day everyone!

Day 24: Next on the list...

Meet the leader of Squad Chika. Anyone want to guess her name?

How old does she look in this picture? I tried to make her look older, but she always seems to have a young face. I'm sure it from spending so much time soaking in springs...

Day 24: Completed. You know, I really liked this challenge. It's hard to believe that it's almost over...

Day 23: Part of a team

Ok, so I drew out a name, 'Squad Chika'. So, the next four faces are part of a full picture! So each part was coloured by a mixture of pastels and pencils (because I couldn't get the right skin colour I wanted with the pastels)

This guy's name in Minoru. The zipper can be detached and used as a shuriken (explaining it's shape)

Day 23: Completed! Think you can stick around for the next few faces?

21 Feb 2012

Day 21!

Righto! Let's do this! Here's Moselle, the 'lead character' from the story Leon is in.

She is fiercly protective of that book. Actually, she's like that with any book. Try to take it off her and she will keep it in her grasp. And even when it's not in her grasp it has to be next to her or in her sight.

Day 21: Done. That means I'm up to date now! Hm... I just realised Lent is coming up... Wonder what I should give up... Anime and manga is out of the question, so maybe chocolate (Yeah, I know it's not original, but I can live without chocolate for a little while. And there is a manga coming out in March that I've been eyeing, so I must have it when it is released!)

Oh right, have a wonderful day everyone!

Day 20: Only 9 to go!

Trin pulled out this person. He's name is Leon, and I've actually written him up on this blog. Click here to check out his introduction in the story he's involved with.

Doesn't he look fascinating? Want to know what the stripes are about? Well I'm not telling~! It's a secret, for now anyway. When I sort out the story, I might post it bit by bit on here (maybe)

Day 20: Completed. Now I only need one to catch-up for the missing days!

19 Feb 2012

Day 18: A face and a tale

Let me tell you what happened yesterday. Dad's aunt was coming up to Queensland for a visit, and so we picked her up from the Brisbane airport. We spent the day on South Bank, which has the art galleries (modern and traditional), the museum and performing arts theatre. Well, me and Trin were thrilled that we could wander around by ourselves, and thus we spent a huge majority of the time at the museum. We also met-up with Owen there. Ok, so here are the dot points of what happened (in no order)

  • I scared Trin in a nature exhibit. "Look a little closer Trin, it's just a fake Strangle Fig Tree" and while I was saying that, I wrapped my hands lightly around her neck. As a result she screamed and jumped, scaring not only the little kids, but the adults too.
  • Next where the dinosaurs, which Trin insisted on getting her photo next to no matter what. There are picture of her kissing the Triceratops (Me and Owen told her to wash her mouth)
  • Having wandered and seen everything in the free part, we then paid to see all the science stuff (which is total cool by the way!) Me and Owen had a game of 3-D Connect-Four (which I won!) We laughed as Trin got dizzy from an optical illusion. We also spun ourselves to an extreme level (as extreme as we could) and tried to walk in a straight line (Trin ran into an exhibit, Owen almost went into the floor and I walked in a straight line. The funny thing was I had my eye open the whole time I was getting spun, so I wonder if that affected my ability...)
  • Then we went to another part which had a fake dead body. We spent an hour or two in there, before I was unwillingly dragged out by Trin and Owen. Me and Trin decided to do a impromptu scene inspired by a TV show, 'Psych' (our video as seen below. It was just for laughs and Owen had no idea what he got himself into for a few seconds)

And that was just the museum! So overall, the whole day was a blast!
Opps, I got a little excited again! Anyway, the face for day 18 is the twin brother of Lady Kimiko, and his name is Takumi.
Doesn't he look smart? Does he look like an adult? When I told Mum that he was an artist, she said "No wonder he is good looking"

Hmm.... I just realised I have two sets of blue haired twins, but at least the two ninja have a more ice blue colour!
Day 18: Completed! I'm catching up! Slowly... Ok, have a nice day then everyone!

Day 17: A little bit late (again)

Busy busy busy! But no excuses! Anyway, the 17th was Dad's birthday, so he drew the name out of the hat! He actually drew out two names, and thus saved the issue for the next days face. Anyway, he drew out Lady Kimiko, the leader of the village that Kiyo, Naoko and Sasumu belong to. So here is the 17th face!

I wonder... How old does she look to you?? I try very hard to draw adult-aged characters, but I'm never sure how they really look...

Day 17: Done! Onto the next (late) one!

15 Feb 2012

Day 15!

Here's the picture for Day 15! It's the character that Dad drew out. Her name is Cinnamon and she comes from the same story as Pari-Pari.

Does she look a bit like a boy? Maybe her hair should be a bit longer... Or is there something else I can do??
Anyway, Day 15: Completed!! Just a simple post for today. Ok then, have a wonderful day everyone!

13 Feb 2012

Day 13 of 29 faces challenge

Alrighty! Once this guy is up, then I'll be up-to-date! Ok, Mum pulled the name out of the hat, and she selected Pari-Pari (like the seasoning you put on food). He is actually from a Science Fiction story I was writing. dad said he looked very mysterious in this picture, but then I showed him another one and he said "Not so mysterious now".

Don't worry about the look he is giving you. He gives that look to everybody that comes too close when he is eating.

Day 13: Done! Thanks for dropping by everyone! Have a wonderful day!

Day 12

Ninja!! Thats what the past three faces are. Haha, I love ninja, the ones that you can see and the ones you can't. As I'm writing this, I'm re-watching the newest movie (well, my favourite parts anyway)! Anyway, the characters (and others) have their own little (did I say little? It's pretty big) world that they live in, and I use them to practice writing and drawing fights. Anyway, we had a family friend over and she pulled out the name Dusk. So here he is.

Another sketch, I hope the picture is good enough for you all to see him and the weapon.

Day 12: Completed. I'm a little bit behind, but I'll catch up... Eventually. Anyway, have a nice day everyone!

11 Feb 2012

Day 11 (Or Day 9 part... You get the idea)

Last face (for now anyway). Let's introduce you to the final member, Sasumu. Here's the hint
He trains birds and is the first to know about many things outside his home/town.
Seems like he is the one Kiyo is peeved at. Yes, that's a scar over his right eye.
MagicLoveCrow, you should know this guy!
Anyway... Days 9-11: Done. Want to see the idea I had?

That's them! Each face was just one part of the whole image! Was it a neat idea?
Mission accomplished!! Can anyone guess what they are?? Here, I'll expand the hints:
Kiyo gets into a lot of fights with enemies, he has a scar on his stomach from when he was tortured and trains all animals in tracking and fighting. He has a wolf as a partner.
Naoko specialises in tracking down people and can see chakra from a great distance.
Sasumu trains birds and is the first to know about many things outside his village because his family are the people that look after the messenger birds and aviary.

If you guys watch a particular anime, then you should be able to guess correctly (what they are wearing should give a hint). But I should say... You remember when I said when I do a lot of something, or not enough, that my dreams start to fill my head with that? Well, that idea applies for these guys too (and anyone in their world/story).

Anyway, I'll leave you guys for now. Three posts in one day is enough for me. I'll reveal what they are tomorrow. Ok, have a nice day everyone!

Day 10! (Or Day 9 Part 2)

Second post! Here is the next face, Naoko. Here is a hint of what she is;
She (and her team) specialise in tracking and she can see something that her friends can't.

Isn't she sweet? Mum likes her the best.

One more face to go~! Hope you are all sticking around for the 'big' reveal!

Day 9: A little bit late.

Sorry it's late, but my sister still hasn't given me the photos that I wanted, and so I had to improvive. This included drawing a name out of a hat, but do you think I drew out one name? Well, I did, but it had 'Squad Daichi' on it, so that meant three faces. And I thought to myself 'Awesome, now how am I going to do this?'. There are going to be three posts today, to make up for the days missed and to show just what I did. So here is the first (sorry, ninth) day, Kiyo.

He looks a little bit peeved doesn't he? Wonder who at...
Want to play a guessing game? Everyone is allowed to play (expect Mum who might remember these characters).
Kiyo gets into a lot of fights, as a scar on his stomach and trains all types of animals (except birds).
Ok, talk to you in the next post!

7 Feb 2012

Day 7: Partners

Hi everyone! How are you all going?
Ok, so the name I drew out of the hat was 'Eva', but when I was drawing her, I decided to add in her little partner, Squirt. Now, a little explanation... Sometimes, when I watch/read/play a lot of something, or don't watch/read/play enough, then my dreams start remind me that I might have a small problem. Anyway... These characters appeared after I was given the latest Pokemon game; Pokemon White, and spending pretty much a whole day on it too, my dream to keep up my little daydreams.
Moving on... Here are the faces for Day 7!

I'll put in a better picture tomorrow, but this will do for now. Are they cute?

Day 7: Done! Tomorrow I'm going to try something a little (sorry, a lot) different. Ok, have a wonderful day everyone!

6 Feb 2012

Day 6: Green with... Drowsiness?

Ok, so the name that Owen drew out of the hat was 'Vangelis', a character that, besides a brown and white vest and his ultra cool goggles, is pretty much decked out in green! I love this guy! Total gamer, green hair, yellow eyes, gives his advice by saying "As a third party to this whole thing..." and... Whoa, sorry. Got a little over excited there. You're all here for the face, not the character! Anyway, here the face for Day 6!

His hair is normally more gravity defying... But I assume that's because he is just waking up from a nap that his hair is naturally going to be 'dull' until he is fully awake. And yes; he is drooling.
Day 6: Mission FINALLY Accomplished!!! Ok, thanks for dropping by everyone! Hope you all have a great day!

4 Feb 2012

Day 4 and...

Ok, to start off, thank-you all for the complements on my artwork, and I hope that I can work my way around to each of yours and do the same thing.
Anyway, today is Day 4 of the 29 faces challenge. Yesterday afternoon, I skipped up to Dad with a hat and asked him to draw out a name. The name was Phoenix, and I laughed that he picked out that name. She's from an old story (discontinued) and it was the first story Dad ever complemented me for. For the picture I used both pens (markers) and pencils!

She is a 13 year-old pirate. She also lives up to her name. If she is beaten or knocked down in a fight, she'll spring right back up with more energy.

And as for the '...' in the title, today is also Owen's birthday (a friend of mine. If you want to know what he is like, think Sheldon from the Big Bang theory. Or you can look at the post A Disastrous Physics Lesson or Graduation for a rough idea). Anyway, I found out he reads this blog, so I'm posting his present on here.

She's a character from the game Skyrim. Her name is Lydia. There is some reason as to why she's popular, but I've forgotten (It might be because the player can kill her several times or maybe because she's a NPC that makes the same mistake over and over again).

Like it Owen?? I'm not sure if you wanted another character, but I thought she was a pretty safe bet. I'll give her to you tomorrow!

Day 4: Completed!! My sister, Trinity, has picked the name out of the hat for tomorrow. Ok, that's it for now. Have fun everyone!

1 Feb 2012

29 faces in February: Day 1

When Mum told me she was joining the 29 faces activity, I immediately said that I was joining her. Man, sometimes it's so hard to find the inspiration to draw, so with the activity/challenge to draw a face everyday, why not accept it? So, to kickstart the challenge, I started with the face of a original character. Light. Originally she was crying, but I thought she looked much better smiling and scrapped the first idea.

Light. I wonder who or what she is smiling at...

Day 1: Mission accomplished! Sorry, I meant to say 'Day 1: Done', but I sorta got a little over excited over this picture. Though I think it looks much better when you have it in your hand, but the picture is still good (just different). This picture is going on my door (as soon as I have the free time to laminate it). Anyway, have a nice day everyone!

*Edit. Anyone looking for the other faces will have to look in the February in the side bar. Mum posted a link when I told her it wasn't ready.... But I'm not blaming her (or anything like that)

29 Jan 2012

Letter to a friend...

Let me tell you a story...
There were once two girls that were part of a group of anime watchers. One of these girls was one of the ringleaders and the other just started to socialise with the group. The ringleader gave the newbie a list of anime to watch and sent her on her way. During the year, the newbie came back with her comments and the two would discuss their favourite parts of the shows until the bell rang for PC or the end of lunch. Now, after a two week holiday, the newbie came back with her review of one of the shows the ringleader was so energetic about. However, just as the newbie started, the ringleader clamped her hands over her ears and loudly proclaimed "Don't tell me how it ended!". After the ringleader calmed down, the two had a more formal discussion to find out why the ringleader did what she did. The newbie found out, the the ringleader saw a bit of the movie and was heartbroken that her favourite character died in it. The newbie, slightly upset over not being able to talk about the show, told the ringleader that she MUST watch it through to the end no matter what happened in it, though she never said why to watch it. And for three years, the not-so-newbie asked the ringleader if she started to watch it, but the ringleader said that she hadn't and moved onto a different anime. Every. Single. TIME!

Now the newbie has grown up (slightly) and started finding her own shows, but the ringleader still hasn't finished one of her originals! It's a true story too, although to be fair, the newbie wasn't new to anime, just new to the group. In fact, it's a miracle that the newbie wasn't seriously messed up from the anime she watched as a child, but it was probably due to the fact that if she couldn't deal with it, she'd walk off and wouldn't return until the scene was over or the episode was finished (something the newbie keeps doing when watching all types of TV now) and that she'd forgotten a lot of the stuff that happened. The newbie is still waiting for a character to die, and she often enjoys talking to the group about their theories about how the character will die (and everyone in the group thinks it would be best if the character died. He backstabbed the only person who tried to understand him, left his village, went over to the dark-side, killed his brother, became some hybrid between depression and madness, then attacked his village, attempted to kill his 'former' friends, and probably a lot of other things too. And he STILL has fangirls?! It's completely ridiculous! He must die! If he doesn't die soon, I'm doing a Thursday Next and jumping in the book to do the deed myself!)

*Ahem* *Ahem* Sorry, got a bit off topic there. Had to start to control myself there (Once I get going, it's hard to stop...). Oh, has anyone figured out who the newbie was? That's right, it was me. The ringleader in question is a friend of mine, Carla.

Going back to the story, did I ever mention Retreat on this blog? Maybe not, but at Retreat, we had to write affirmation letters to the people we wanted to thank and tell we admired. I wrote to Carla, telling her how much I envied her ability to get along with everyone, or at least tolerate them. However, at the bottom of the note I said; "I'm not sure if this is really the place to say this... But you have to watch Clannad After Story. It's been 3 years Carla, and nobody else as watched it. I'm getting a little bit irritated that I can't talk about it too, so hurry up! From, Memphis".

Funnily enough, I got a letter from Carla too. This is how it opened; "Dear Memphis, I have loved being your friend and having you in my PC this year. Its so nice having someone to talk anime with & I love our conversations. And I promise when I get 'round to watching Clannad: After Story, it will be half your fault :P".

We then had a joke about 'great minds think alike', but we both thought it was the funniest thing that we had written about the same thing in our letters. Just so you know, none of us knew who were writing letters for who and what was on them.

Anyway... I recently started to re-watch some anime, and I decided to re-watch the Clannad series, mostly because I got pretty lost towards the end. So, I found a page that attempts to explain the story. It does a pretty good job too. So, as a result, I decided to write another letter the Carla and remind her to finish what she started, but I'm not sure if I should send it... I always think I seem like the biggest idiot when I'm writing, so I'm not sure what to do... I mean, I always seem pretty blunt when writing (because I want to get straight to the point), and I wonder if that bluntness gets mistaken for something else entirely. Anyway, I was wondering if you guys can give some feedback, tell me what you really think about the following letter, because I'm seriously stumped here...

Yo Carla! How's England going? This is probably a stupid reason to send you a message, but you seriously need to get around to watching Clannad After Story this year (whenever you want though. I'm sure you have other better things to do, like sightseeing). I'm not going to spoil anything (you'd probably have my head if I did), but I found a good site that attempts to explain things that happen in both seasons (because I got completely lost close to the end). Anyway, I'm going to re-watch the series, so I thought I'd just remind you that you have yet to finish it. This e-mail sounds so stupid now that I've written it, but, well, you got me to watch it in the first place! You have to finish it! It's coming up to four years now!

... You guys still here? It's a long ranting post, but if you're still here, thanks for putting up with it. And feedback! Please! I seriously don't know if I should send it, or change it, or not even bother! Anyway, have a nice day everyone! Sorry about the rant!

Ready to start the New Year?

Hello everyone!
I'm not really sure what to say since everyone has different customs associated around December/January, so I guess the only thing I can say is 'Have a good time doing whatever it is you're doing'! I hope no-one takes offence to that statement, if you do, please tell me and I rectify the mistake.
Anyway, it's been a while since I've been on, but I haven't really had time to stop and think for weeks now. Ok, I've had time to think, but only before I go to sleep. All I've really been doing is travelling around (a lot), playing video games, reading, writing, drawing and has of yesterday, driving (Although each time I'm in the driver's seat of the car I'm having a nervous breakdown). Anyway, since this year is 2012, the year the world ends (as I loved to tell Trin about it 3 years ago), I've made some decisions for this year, just in case it really is the end and I won't be able to do everything that I wanted to do. These are in no particular order;
1) Draw more
2) Write more
3) Go to Supanova
4) Learn Italian
5) Read more
6) Play more video games
7) Finish books and games that I already have
8) Force Dad to publish one of his writings
9) Failing that, forge his signature and send one off myself
And the last one for this post...
10) Survive any doomsday that might happen in the following year

Right, I'm good now! So with that in mind, I plan to start off the year well, even though it already a week in, but it's still just the beginning right?
Anyway, have a nice time everyone, and if anyone has a request for a post, be sure to tell me and I'll do it (eventually). Ok, bye then!

A disastrous Physics lesson

Looking back over my school books, I remember a two hour Physics lesson that was pretty bad for the class and teacher. Now, before I tell the story it is important to know that while Physics is on, so is HPE (Health and Physical Education), OP Hospitality, Media Studies and so on. So in the 'rare' cases of being bored or nothing to do, we the Physics students would advert our gaze to the window and see the Media students watching a movie, so we would watch it for a while before we had to work again.

Anyway, this particular lesson was really, really, really bad. Two HPE students didn't have a permission form signed, so they were placed in our class for the two hours. That itself would not have been bad, but HPE students never do any homework, or work, the only thing they do is sit there and be a class clown or find some way to disrupt the class. The two students that joined us were the worst of the lot. We (physics students) were seriously focusing on quarks, leptons, gluons, electromagnetic waves (I'm just going to stop right there...) but the two HPE students were shouting in the back of class about how pointless it all was, questioning pretty much everything and tore down a few posters. When our teacher moved and separated them into the back room and outside, it only got worse.

Here's a list of what they did within the thirty minutes before being lectured for the remainder of the lesson and sent to detention;
1) They opened the door to the back room and talked to each other
2) Touched everything in the back room
3) Knocked over stuff in the back room
4) One of them thought I wasn't looking and through the fume box raised his middle finger at me
5) Got some of the media students that were on a break to join them
6) Run to their original spots when a door was opened
7) Get yelled at by the Media teacher
8) Get lectured by the science assistant
9) Dropped a power generator (I think that's what it is called)
10) Pretty much snapped Jessie's (a boy by the way) old physics assignment in half
11) And I'm pretty sure they did even more but I can't be stuffed to remember it

So after the two hour lesson, the 20 minute lecture and the many phone calls to office, four physics students stayed behind to pack up the room and chat. Me, my friend Owen, Luke and the genius Jordan (There was a saying in our year... "If Yatesy can't do it, then the rest of us haven't got a chance").
Our teacher was upset about the whole lesson and said, "I forgot that people like that existed."
"How?"We all responded in our various ways.
"I only teach physics to the senior school. Those who choose to be here"
"Well hopefully you'll never have to see them again" I responded, really wishing that I'd never have to see them again too and then remembered that I only had to tolerate it for three more weeks.
"In England we have a system to sort students into depending on their intelligence, why isn't there one here?" Our teacher commented about the education system we have set up.
And there wasn't even a moments pause when Jordan responded,
"It's called discrimination here"
Thus there were high-fives between the four students, we said a quick bye to the teacher and swiftly left the classroom, still laughing.

Now that I'm remembering the Physics lessons, I remember what Owen used to do in pretty much every second one. He would start a fight/discussion with our teacher about the teaching method or the formula being used or something. Owen wasn't really picky about what, he just had to have some fault with it. It was pretty lucky for the teacher then that I was in the same class and sitting next to Owen. I sorted out the fights by telling Owen to back off the subject and that if he becomes a teacher, then he can have his say (and that is never going to happen).

Oh, and then there was the Electromagnetic Spectrum song that Daniel would sing every lesson and the Quark song and the Pi song and some other song or five that I will never look up (or if I do, only to terrorise people). And in our first term, we did medieval physics. If anyone remembers my first post, you'd remember that I have an aversion to ball sports. One physics lesson, we had a prac, I was taking a break from testing my Mace (Yes. A hand-made Mace) and showing Owen something on my I-pod while some of the other physics students were sitting down close by, when all of a sudden a ball came flying out of the Pinbarren (our undercover basketball/netball/handball court) and went straight into my leg. Then everyone close by heard the sound of the impact, and Owen had even inspected himself incase he was hit.

A few moments later, everyone looked at me, but it wasn't because I was crying out in pain or on the ground or nursing a wound. They looked at me because they had deduced if they were on the sidelines, and Owen wasn't hit, then surely it was me that was hit. Instead, I picked up the ball and tossed it back to one of the kids in Pinbarren like I wasn't hit. Truth is that it was me, but I didn't even feel the ball make contact with my leg. I had been kicked/kneed/punched/had other balls thrown at me in the same spot several times, so I had grown some kind of pain tolerance on that leg. For that lesson I was hailed as some kind of demigod. As fun as that lesson was however, it ended and I inspected my leg to find a huge purple bruise. So much for being a demigod huh? It's weird though, as fast as the ball was and as loud as the impact was, you would think that I would have felt or noticed it? Or at least tried to move out of the way? I guess some part of my brain knew that the ball was heading my way and if it missed the first, it'll hit the second. I don't know though, the whole incident was pretty weird.

Anyway, I guess that gives people a rough idea about what happens in our physic lessons, and that's not even going into detail about the breaks, or the maths, or the discussions or the five people that would hover around Owen's laptop every second Tuesday during the lesson to watch the countdown for the next episode of Red vs Blue.

Ok, I think that's it for now! Have a nice day everyone!

Graduation

Yesterday, I finished my 12 years of schooling. While the girls in my year were balling their eyes out about how much everyone was good friends with each other and how much their miss others in the grade, I sat there waiting for it all to be over so I could go home and never see many of them ever again (boys and girls, not just girls). Now while that is a negative view to the process of graduation, the fact of the matter is, most of those people tortured me for twelve years, so I'm very happy at the prospect of never seeing most of them ever again.

Now the only thing is, I actually show them respect, even though they have never shown it to me. And I always wondered why I did that. Truth is I still have no idea. Probably 'Treat people the way you want to be treated', never worked, but I moved on to the idea of 'what goes around comes around'. Still hasn't worked too well though. Mum is always saying to me 'But there are some people you trust right? Just because of what happened in the past doesn't mean that it will happen now', and while Mum may say that, the truth to the matter is I just don't like most people my age because they are what I like to call 'colourless sheep'. For this reason I also dislike a huge amount of the people in the younger grades too. Still though, there are a few peers that I do like and hope to cross paths with again sometime in the future because they aren't 'colourless sheep' to me. And these few people I consider friends.

School wasn't all that bad though. I liked most of the teachers (didn't really like my last English teacher) and I enjoyed a huge majority of the lessons. I had a lot of time in school to think too. It was in those times I started to plan or flesh out my stories. Nobody would notice if I went off on my own, or that I was in the same room (in several camp and retreat cases), I don't think they even noticed that I stopped writing down notes to draw a picture instead.

I guess after this little rant, I can't really say much about my personal experience with school. Summed up; I dislike most of the people at school, but school itself I really liked. Now with more free time, I'll be able to do more drawings, write more, start going through the list of books that I've been meaning to read and start finishing video games (or start them, depends on which gaming console).

Actually, yesterday, there was a Year 12 liturgy, and it was pretty boring (and sitting on the floor for around 2-3 hours didn't help). I was lucky, I was sitting next to two of my friends. 30 minutes into the liturgy, I looked over to the friend on my left, Owen, and said "Is it sad that I'm thinking I can scale the wall and hide up there?" while I motioned to the bearings on the ceiling. He looked up and realised what I was referring to.
"Do you think it's sad I'm thinking about throat tickler's?" He replied. I looked at his hands and he was flicking them like he was activating something.
Now, I think I should explain what a throat tickler is. It is my friend's nickname for a hidden blade after he used it in a game and it went through the throat (but he had turned the blood option off for some reason), thus it was named.
This is a 'throat tickler'. Otherwise known as a hidden blade. And the game it's from (Currently in my possession)
I got the image from Google.
Talking about hidden blades, at the Graduation dinner later that day, the two of us and our other friend, Mitchell (otherwise known as Mitch'o) were so bored that we placed spoons in our watches (or bracelet in my case) and pretending that we were assassins in our seats. This happened while our principal was talking for, uh... I don't know how long he went on for. And oh yeah, he is a brother (Catholic brother not family brother). We stopped in the end, just as we saw the dessert coming out and instead focused our attention to feeding the candle something with Owen's mum and Mitch's sister, which we again stopped as soon as the servers came to our table.

And so after that night, and sleeping for 12 hours, I got up, ate breakfast/lunch, placed Assassin's Creed Brotherhood in the X-box and spent 4 hours jumping from roof to roof, sniping guards with a crossbow and the last few minutes taught Mum how to fight briefly. I was very proud; She assassinated one and killed the other three within 20 seconds. A lot better than she was in Halo were she threw a grenade in the car she was in... That was after spending ten minutes of me telling her where to turn the camera to so she could get in... And that was after her spending 30 minutes lost and her running off a cliff (although from that she did appear where I was after she fell and that solved the lost problem).

Ok, I think I'm done for now. That was a nice little rant, I feel much better. Now that school's finished, I'll be posting the pictures that I drew in my school books over the past year a few at a time. Ok, thanks for listening (well, reading, but you get the idea)! Have a nice day everyone!
This was a picture I drew to celebrate me graduating. Nice isn't it? I drew the hand on the right, Mum drew the one on the left.

An article that I did for school

First off. I'M SO SORRY! I still haven't inked my witches, but I just borrowed out a heap of new (to me) manga and I'm reading 'The Power of Six' (sequel to 'I am Number Four'), so again I apologise. I still intend to keep my promise.

Anyway, to post a post, in Australia, we have a festival called 'Voices on the Coast'. It's a festival with Australian writers, artists and occasionally performers. I first went when I was in grade 6 or 7. Mum went to as a chaperone to the group of over-excited kids. Since my first time, I've been going to the festival ever since. I've picked up different techniques in writing and drawing, or things to try (most of which I suck at, but I still try). Anyway, my first year of High School was the first time they decided to try taking a group there. We were small, and at the end of the day, I wrote up an article on it. Every year since then, I've written an article and this was my last year doing it.

There was a mistake in the article (ONE mistake) but on this post I fixed it up. Teacher did a lousy check-over. Anyway, moving on to the actual article.

VOICES ON THE COAST

On the 6th of June 2011 at Sunshine Coast University, the ‘Voices on the Coast’ 30 students and 3 teachers from St Asbjörn’s attended this literacy festival. The number of students had been cut in half, but none the less no-one’s spirits for the excitement of that day were dampened. The day’s highlights included going to writing, drawing and performing workshops, listening to the stories of the talented authors and illustrators there and of course, getting autographs. The St Asbjörn’s students showed their best behaviour as they were swept with the unparalleled excitement of the day.
As soon as the group stepped off the bus, everyone was gearing to go to the first session. Olivia from 8.6 said that after attending the Steph Bowe talk she would “really like to read the book ‘Girl saves Boy’ because it sounds interesting”. Brigette from 9.4 went to a Pat Flynn talk, afterward saying “I really enjoyed this session as he entertained a comical side to his lecture capturing everyone’s attention”. Meanwhile over on the other side of the grounds, many went to a talk with Oliver Phommavanh, and were in agreement that even with the child-like sense of humour (and attention span) that it was the funniest talk of the day and a huge highlight.
In session 2, Rianna from 8.4 went to a talk with fantasy author Kate Forsyth saying, “I always loved fantasy and it had some good writing tips for me”. Several students went to a printing workshop and all agreed that it was one of the most fun things of the day; Trinity said “I enjoyed this workshop because it showed how talented some people are”. Grace from Penola 3 explained that the ‘Shake and Stir’ workshop “Was not what I had first expected. It was an unbelievably awesome workshop”!
In the last session, Darcy from 9.3 went to see James Phelan and had some harsh criticism: “It was alright, it needed more writing techniques’. Finian went to Michael Bauer saying it was a “great inspiration and very funny”. Sacha said that “Tristan Bancks showed us how to set up and write stories”.
Unfortunately, the day had to come to an end (much to the disappointment of all), and at the bottom of each of the sheets I have in front of me there are the words ‘Best day ever’ or ‘Great fun’ scrawled across in all different handwritings.
It’s been a pleasure reporting the St Asbjörn’s students’ day during ‘Voices on the Coast’ for the past five years; it’s hard to believe that we started with only 10 students and one teacher.

And just on another note, all last names were deleted from this article and I changed the name of the High School, just incase some creep comes along. I'm not saying any of you are creeps, but it's better to be safe than sorry. And incase the name 'Saint Asbjörn' is stubbled upon, it comes from a web-comic called 'Scandanavia and the World' and was created by Humon. I just lack the imagination right now to create a name, and I was re-reading some comics yesterday.

I hope I did everything correctly... If not, I'll probably take the post down. Anyway, Have a good day everyone.

Opps...

Haha, I sorta kinda spent my day painting and playing on the computer, when I was meant to be finishing off a different drawing... Opps... Anyway, I liked the outcome of the painting I did, so I decided to show you guys the picture. The picture is of Ashley (an older version of her I think) and it's done in a 1970's knitting book. I plan to fill the other pages with my other characters. There are only three pictures though because I'm really lazy when the camera's out of my reach.

Would you believe me if I said that I actually drew that hand?
And here is the fully coloured picture. Like it? I do. It seems kinda steam-punk to me, but I found the outfit in one of the 70's knitting books! Although, the outfit had no colour, so that part's all me!
And then I decided to add an outline for her wings in the end just to use up some of the paint I had left

Short post, but the next one will have my witches I promise! I'll draw all day tomorrow if I have to (actually, I might do that anyway). Ok, have a fun day everyone!

Holidays and My friend's artwork

Holidays are a great thing. Travel, sleep, video games, reading, drawing and writing! The only issue is that it has to be crammed into 2 weeks. That and there was little internet access time (and whatever time there was a certain younger sister made sure she had it). Doesn't matter though. I enjoyed reading out my favourite bits to Mum from the book I was reading, 'Witches Abroad' by Terry Pratchett, while mum told me about hers, 'Small Gods' also by Terry Pratchett. And now I really, really, really need to find the other 30-something novels of Discworld.

On the first day of the holidays, I sent an e-mail to my friend (the one who likes the purple hair) asking if I could put the pictures she drew for me on here, but she didn't check her inbox, so I had to wait until school today when she came bouncing up to me excited to talk about her holiday (mainly watching anime). But before I show the pictures on here, you need to know the back story (well, not really, but it clears up some details).

1) She (my friend) is a really gifted manga artist. She is like me in that she draws in her school books, but if you flip through hers, you'll see some school work on a page and then a full page dedicated to a character on the next. Man I get so jealous of her sometimes... She tells me about her pictures and I REALLY want to see them... Moving on.

2) Three weeks before the end of the term, she had started to get back into an anime called 'Beyblades', something that I re-watched three years ago (and keep re-watching when I'm in the mood). She was very excited about it, and throughout the week, we talked about the parts that she was up to and what she remembered from before.

3) During the exam week, she came up to me with a picture that she had drawn of two of the characters, and I decided I was going to draw her as a beyblader with a dragon bitbeast, but I wanted her to be happy with it. So during the study block, I asked her what were her preferred colours and if she still adored dragons (overall, her tastes vary depending on how she is feeling). So I did the picture (with a dragonology book for a reference) and gave it to her at the end of the day. If I interpreted the squealing correctly, she was really happy.

4) And now we arrive to the last week of the term. In the last block she was absolutely determined to give me the picture before the end of the day. Since my chemistry class only had seven kids in it, after we packed up the library, we could sorta wander around for a bit before going back to the classroom. My friend was in the library and said she'd give the picture if I tagged along with her. After wandering around, she realised that the picture was in the art room, so we went there (the class also had seven kids) and she happily told me all about the drawing process and joined my chemistry class for a bit before she took off.

So that is the very brief backstory. Now some of you are wondering why I'm putting my friend's work on here, even though I've been drawing over the holidays, am I right? The truth is... I need to fix up my drawings, and organise them, and possibly locate one or two. BUT I was originally planning to post this on the last day of the term and I decided I'd still go though it. Besides, it an awesome picture and I like showing people awesome things.

Oh, I just realised I didn't tell you what the picture is of. It's her interpretation of me as a beyblader and what my bitbeast would look like. She always puts so much work into her artwork... I feel bad now... I think mine is really, really, really poor compared to hers...

Anyway! To the pictures!

I'll put up better quality pictures as soon as I can and I promise Magaly, I'll keep my self-made promise to put up my witches, but the pictures of them went walk-abouts and now I have to find them (or redraw. There's not that much work yet).

Anyway, thanks for reading and bearing with me on this one! Have a nice day everyone!
